Big week for nurses
Today, nurses across Cheshire and Wirral came together to be part of the launch of 10 new national commitments to care in nursing.
Launched live by Jane Cummings, Chief Nursing Officer for England, the new national Nursing Framework ‘Leading Change Adding Value’, was celebrated by local nurses at Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) at an event in Ellesmere Port.
Avril Devaney, CWP Director of Nursing and Therapies, who led the event with nursing colleagues, said: “We are delighted with the framework, it’s inspirational and centred on things we’re concerned about at CWP. The 10 commitments are a brilliant vehicle for us to become much more person centred in our approach. This is an exciting time for us to really make a difference and it will help us to really concentrate on what matters to people.”
CWP nurses also recently marked the centenary International Nurses’ Day (12 May) to celebrate their profession. Nurses in North and South Community Care Teams in Ellesmere Port, held a quiz and other team building activities as part of the celebrations. They were treated to a cake shaped like a nurse, provided by one of the nurses Rebecca Arner.
Yvonne Ball, Team Manager for Ellesmere Port South Community Care Team says: “We know that our staff work tirelessly every day, but these international awareness days allow us to pause and thank our colleagues for their teamwork, dedication and care they deliver to our patients.
“The day provided a chance to bring the two teams together during a “Bring & Share” lunch, join in a fun nursing quiz and win a few small prizes. Sue Grave, staff nurse from Ellesmere Port North Team won a bonus prize for providing the actual date of the launch of the NHS. Each nurse received a “Nurses Survival Kit” to celebrate their day. Linda Wain, professional development lead wrote a poem about Nurses’ Day and read it to the teams.
“Both myself and Karrie Broad, manager of Ellesmere Port North team wish to thank all the staff for participating, Jennett Wilne for her excellent work in making the survival kits, Rebecca & Sam for the lovely cakes and Linda Wain for supporting us with this special day.”
