CWP employee Nick does swimmingly in his latest learning venture

Local man, Nick Robinson has Autism and ADHD but this hasn’t stopped him from accumulating some particularly impressive achievements.

Nick works for Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) in the Administration Team at Stanney Clinic in Ellesmere Port and as well maintaining the electronic patient record, he has many more strings to his bow.

He began his career in the NHS in 2007 as a Medical Records Clerk before joining CWP in December 2012 as a filing clerk.  He moved with the times and as the Trust moved to an electronic patient record, he learned how to scan as opposed to filing paper records. 

He acquired a thirst for knowledge and learning in December 2013 when he decided he didn’t have enough qualifications and his quest began!  He trained to become a Microsoft Office Specialist and gained his ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) in January 2014 and hasn’t looked back.

Amongst other learning, he has recently been awarded a Diploma in Operational Management (Level 4) with a distinction. This included writing 27,000 words worth of assignments and this month has also successfully completed the NHS Leadership Academy Edward Jenner programme which helps to build a strong foundation of leadership skills that can help enhance confidence and competence. 

CWP team leader, Janice Stevenson says: “I have been Nick’s line manager since 2012. I had no previous experience of working with anyone with autism and managing Nick has been an enriching experience but not without challenges. Nick is simply an inspiration to us all.  He tackles obstacles with a cheerful disposition and is a great member of the team.”

Chris Lake, head of professional development at the NHS Leadership Academy said: “We’re really pleased to hear about Nick’s achievements and how The Edward Jenner programme has benefitted him. It’s great to be part of his leadership development journey and we’re sure he will go from strength to strength.

“We have a number of leadership development programmes and resources for people at all stages of their leadership journey and we’d encourage people to find out more.”

Nick added: “Janice has been really supportive of my learning and development, she always helps me and is amazing!”
