Local brain injury service offers help with fatigue

by CWP News - 23 December 2015

Local NHS Trust introduces new support groups for people who experience fatigue due to brain injury or stroke in Chester.

The fatigue management groups will be facilitated by the Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Service, provided by Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP), to provide a supportive environment for people to explore their experiences of fatigue and learn ways of managing it.

CWP Clinical Specialist, Bernie Walsh, says: “Fatigue is one of the most common symptoms following a brain injury with up to 68% people feeling sudden exhaustion, reduced mental ability and an overwhelming lack of energy. Post stroke/brain injury fatigue is difficult to define and is often misunderstood.”

The groups consist of 6-8 people and run for two hours on a weekly basis for five consecutive weeks with two further review sessions.
