Mindfulness sessions improve staff wellbeing
Staff at Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) are benefitting from a new ‘Mindfulness’ programme.
The programme, run by the Trust’s Central and East Cheshire Recovery College, includes a range of courses and activities, including Zumba, Pilates, Indian Head Massage and Reflexology.
The college also hosts a ‘Train the Trainer’ course, which helps staff to develop their presenting skills, as well as lunchtime ‘Mindfulness’ sessions, which support mental wellbeing.
More than 200 CWP staff have attended at least one aspect of the programme, with 67% reporting a decrease in stress after attending sessions.
Allison Reed, Health and Wellbeing Improvement Trainer at Central and East Cheshire Recovery College, said: “I think the sessions have been so popular and so successful because they are short, digestible and provide a practical transition between work and home life.
“The sessions are a great way to relieve day-to-day stress and there’s something for everyone.
“It’s great to see staff from different backgrounds benefitting from the sessions together.”
The Trust’s latest wellbeing initiative has been praised by staff, with one member saying: “Exercise has never really been my thing but I love coming to these classes.
“The classes are definitely making a difference for me and I would come every day if they were available.”
Another colleague said: “I recently attended one of the lunchtime sessions. It really helped me refocus so that I could work effectively for the rest of the day.
“All of this means we are able to provide the people who use our services with a more responsive, supportive service that encapsulates all of the Trust’s values.”
CWP’s Recovery Colleges provide wellbeing and recovery-focused workshops that are produced and delivered using input from staff, carers and former service users. CWP staff can read the Recovery College Staff Workshop Prospectus here.
All work towards staff health and wellbeing forms part of CWP’s ‘Our People’ campaign, which ensures CWP is the best possible organisation for staff, carers and service users to work and receive care.
