Pick your favourite ward names for Ancora House
Local people are invited to choose their favourite names for wards on a £14m new unit for child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) in Chester.
Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s new unit will provide CAMHS inpatient and day patient services across Cheshire, Wirral and Merseyside.
Those accessing the services have been instrumental to the project, taking part in workshops designing their ideal bedrooms, planting trees in the outdoor areas and decorating the mock bedroom on the site.
Last year the building was named ‘Ancora House’ by the young people involved in the project. ‘Ancora’ is a Latin noun for hope, refuge and support and the word anchor is derived from it.
A call for suggestions for the new ward names earlier this year resulted in a plethora of suggestions from staff, patients, carers and families which have now been whittled down to a shortlist of top ten.
Once decided, the young people and project team will use these names to design artwork for the unit which is due to open in late summer.
Avril Devaney MBE, director of nursing, therapies and patient partnership said, “Ancora House will play a huge part in our local health community, providing mental health services for young people across the region.
“Having involved young people, their families, staff and the community already, we would love for more people to help us decide the final names for our wards and play their part in one of our biggest projects.”
