NIHR definition of research
"Research can be defined as the attempt to derive generalisable or transferable new knowledge to answer or refine relevant questions with scientifically sound methods."
- Have approval from an NHS or Social Care Research Ethics Committee (REC)
- Have Health Research Authority (HRA) approval (where required)
- Have either full research cost funding for non-commercial studies or full funding for all costs for commercial contract studies
- Have completed the tools for costing and attribution
The NIHR Portfolio excludes audits; needs assessments; quality improvement and other local service evaluations.
