Once open, Seren Lodge will become a specialist eight bedded, mental health unit to support perinatal mothers, babies and their families from across Cheshire, Merseyside and North Wales.
CWP in working in partnership with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCHUB), Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, NHS England and NHS Wales to bring the new service to life. Seren Lodge will work alongside existing regional Community Perinatal Mental Health Services who already care for thousands of women and families every year.
‘Seren,’ which translates to ‘star’ in Welsh, was chosen by mums with lived experience of maternal mental ill-health and reflects our new cross-border partnership with NHS Wales.
Around one in five women experience mental health challenges during pregnancy or within the first year after birth. For those who require specialist inpatient support, Seren Lodge provides care closer to home.
Seren Lodge Supports:

Women experiencing severe mental health difficulties from 32 weeks of pregnancy up to 12 months postnatal.

Conditions supported include Bipolar Affective Disorder, Schizophrenia, OCD, Anxiety Disorders, Postpartum Psychosis, and other perinatal mental health conditions.

Women with both existing and first-time mental health difficulties related to pregnancy or childbirth.
Seren Lodge offers a calm, welcoming environment designed to feel like a home from home, supporting women on their recovery journey while enabling them to stay with their babies.
We provide a therapeutic approach with strong links to universal services such as midwifery and health visiting, alongside a supportive environment staffed by specialists in mother–baby relationships.
Women with lived experience have helped shape the design of Seren Lodge from maximising natural light and creating welcoming communal spaces to designing family-focused nursery areas

Eight en-suite bedrooms, including one suitable for twins or multiples, to promote privacy and dignity.

Multiple lounges and a sensory room for quiet time, family visits, and recovery.

Two garden areas with a walking pram loop and close access to Countess Country Park.
Referrals to Seren Lodge are made using the national referral form. Referrals can be completed by a GP, midwife, health visitor, or any other NHS healthcare professional involved in the care of the mother or baby.

Please call NHS 111 and select the mental health option to talk to a mental health professional. They will be able to support you to get the help/advice you need. The service is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
