People in West Cheshire can now book an appointment directly with ‘Physiotherapy First’ – a joint initiative between CWP and the Countess of Chester Hospital Foundation Trust (COCH).
How do I access the service?
Rather than wait for a referral from a GP, the service has introduced physiotherapists into GP Practices to improve access to assessment for people with musculoskeletal symptoms affecting their joints, bones, muscles and soft tissues.
The physiotherapy practitioners can provide diagnosis, self-management advice, exercises as well as onward referrals and investigations such as x rays and blood tests. At your appointment the physiotherapist will assess your symptoms and discuss your treatment options. They can answer any questions and help you decide how best to manage your condition.
The service also has links to the adult musculoskeletal assessment and management service (AMAMS) to access orthopaedics or rheumatology if required. They can also refer to podiatry and physiotherapy if appropriate.
Anyone registered with a GP in West Cheshire can book an assessment appointment directly with a physiotherapist. There are 37 practices that are part of the scheme. Contact your GP surgery for more information.
