The Wirral Learning Disability Child and Adolescent Mental Health (LD CAMHS) Team has been recognised for reducing health inequalities and poorer health outcomes by improving the uptake and quality of annual health checks for people with a learning disability, autism or both.

Dr Lisa Thompson, Consultant Clinical Psychologist said: “We are honoured to be shortlisted for this award. Our team is dedicated to breaking down barriers and supporting people with learning disabilities, their families, and carers to achieve and maintain good health and wellbeing. This recognition validates our efforts and inspires us to continue our work.”

In the Nursing in the Community category, the Mental Health Intensive Support Team has been shortlisted for their work supporting the rehabilitation of people with the most complex mental health needs back into the community – as they move out of inpatient care.

The team has shown substantial benefits in helping people who have been in hospital for long periods of time to live independently, nurture hope and grow in resilience.

Dr Amrith Shetty, CWP associate medical director, said: “Without the Mental Health Intensive Support Team, people with highly complex mental health needs have traditionally needed specialist rehabilitation care, often far away from home. This ground-breaking model fosters a culture of ‘home first’ and offers the least restrictive option for people and their families.

“Being shortlisted for this award is brilliant recognition for the team and we’re especially proud of flying the mental health flag in the community category.”

“Their efforts have made a significant impact on the lives of some of the most vulnerable members of our community. This recognition is well-deserved, and I congratulate them on their outstanding achievements.”

The winners of the Nursing Times Awards 2023 will be announced at a ceremony in London in October.
