The ADHD pathway for Cheshire residents using CWP services is changing from 1st November 2025.

This change is in response to the high demand and long waiting times for people to access a diagnostic assessment or when they transfer from other services.

The new pathway will include options around GP assessment/review and third sector support, based on where you live in Cheshire.

The CWP adult ADHD service for Cheshire residents is continuing as part of these arrangements.

There continue to be very long waits to access services due to high demand and we understand the distress this can cause. The ICB’s additional investment in the pathway, both in primary care (with GPs) and in our service means that access to services should improve over the next 12 - 36 months.

For new referrals

The CWP service remains temporarily closed to new adult referrals for ADHD assessment, but continues to accept:

  • transition referrals for young people leaving paediatric care
  • transfers of care for people who have commenced ADHD treatment elsewhere
  • referrals for people under MAPPA 3
  • referrals for military veterans

For patients on the waiting list:
As the new GP assessment service develops, depending on people’s individual needs, their referral may be transferred to a GP close to where they live or they may be asked to attend the CWP service. Individuals on the waiting list will be contacted by the service about their individual case.

For patients under the CWP service:
Patients already being treated by the CWP service will remain with CWP and will be called for a follow-up appointment when it is due.

The new arrangements mean that in the future, depending on individual needs, they may be discharged for ongoing ADHD treatment and monitoring at a GP practice closer to where they live. Any change to ongoing treatment will be discussed fully with individuals prior to this happening.
